People around the globe celebrate International Nurses Day on May 12, the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale who dedicated her life in serving the wounded. Every year the Nursing Division of P.D. Hinduja National Hospital and M.R.C. celebrate this day on May 12.

As per the International Council for Nurses (ICN), the theme for 2009 Nurses Day was Delivering Quality, Serving Communities: Nurses Leading Care Innovators. Events in P.D. Hinduja National Hospital were held around this theme.

Mr. Pramod Lele, CEO of Hinduja Hospital in his address said that nurses of Hinduja Hospital are extremely dedicated to their work but a more patient centered approach is needed to achieve the optimum level of patient satisfaction. Mrs. Phalakshi Manjrekar, the Director Nursing of Hinduja Hospital unfolded the Nurses Day theme. She focused on the fact that nurses are engaged in innovative activities on a daily basis to improve patient care outcomes and to reduce costs to the health system. She added that expert knowledge and nursing research are at the heart of many of the new roles which nurses take up, as well as the basis for traditional nursing care. But it is the combination of innovation and vitality that allows nurses work to take flight.

Scientific presentations by nurses were conducted on the Nurses Day. The topics were: “Nurses as brand builders for hospital”-Neha Gupta,Nursing Executive, “Clinical care pathway in Oncology Nursing”- Ms.Smita Patnoskar, ‘Sepsis-latest management guidelines’- Ms.Indu Poulose, and “Latest trends in diabetic nursing care”- Ms.Adriana Pinto.

A Final round of the “Innovative Team” Quiz was conducted by NABH trainers Ms.Sreeja Nair, Ms.Beena Nair, Ms.Shilpa Tiwde, Ms.Indu Poulose and Ms.Priya Shettygar in the Nurses Day programme.

The programme concluded with vote of thanks and was followed by lunch. All the members of the Nursing Division and Nurses who attended the programme were given a beautiful bookmark from Nursing Division and Nurses Day best wishes card from Hinduja Hospital Trustees – Mrs Usha Raheja, Mrs Vinoo Hinduja and CEO- Mr.Pramod Lele on account of Nurses Day 2009.
